Steps You Should Take in 11th Grade

  • Review with your school counselor the classes you need to take for SUS admission, including Algebra II or advanced math and English with emphasis on writing and critical reading. Register for and take the PSAT.

  • Take college prep English (honors, AP, dual enrollment or IB).

  • Students taking Advanced Placement (AP) classes: Register to take the AP exams in the spring. You can earn college credit for AP courses if you score well on the test(s). Prepare for AP exams by going to www.FLVS.net (Florida Virtual School's online program).

  • Take the College Placement Test (CPT) to determine if you are ready for college level math, English and language arts.

  • Register for the SAT or the ACT a month before the exam. If you take the exam in the spring or summer, you will get the results in time to see if you need to retake it in the fall. Some SUS campuses require you to take the SAT by October of your senior year.

  • Prepare for the SAT by taking practice exams at www.collegeboard.com.

  • Gather information about colleges, financial aid, scholarships and careers. More information is available at www.Facts.org.
