Steps You
Should Take in 10th Grade

- Take Geometry or
Algebra II.
- It is required that
this year you take the Florida Comprehensive
Assessment Test (FCAT) to determine if you are ready
to graduate from high school.
- September: Prepare
for the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Achievement
Test), a practice exam for the SAT I (Scholastic
Achievement Test I), which is required for several
national scholarships, including the National Merit
Scholarship. Take a practice test at
www.collegeboard.com prior to taking the PSAT
(Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test).
- Take part in college
readiness programs and summer workshops at SUS
campuses: programs like Upward Bound, Educational
Talent Search, College Reach-Out Program, GEAR UP,
college residential and non-residential programs,
and subjects like music, science, engineering,
writing, filmmaking, and others.
- Join clubs, play
sports, exercise leadership and volunteer. These are
good ways to develop or expand your interests.
- Earn good grades
(aim for A's and B's) and complete all homework
assignments.
